Reading the cards…
The Lover (Man) card — known in Hungarian as the Férfi Szerető — is the primary masculine figure in the Gipsy Tarot deck. When this card appears in a reading, it almost always refers to a specific man: someone the querent loves, desires, or is emotionally entangled with. It can also represent the querent themselves if they identify with masculine energy. This is the base card of active romantic energy in the deck. It carries the weight of pursuit, intensity, and passionate involvement. Wherever it falls in a spread, it signals that a man's presence, choices, or emotions are at the centre of the situation. In a love reading, the Lover (Man) card is one of the most significant draws. It confirms that a real, specific connection exists — not a fantasy or a maybe, but a person who is already in the picture. Paired with the Love card or the Marriage card, it points to deepening commitment. Paired with the Serpent or Jealousy, it warns of complications — possessiveness, rivalry, or a dynamic that needs honest conversation. In a career or practical reading, the Lover (Man) may represent a male colleague, boss, or collaborator who holds influence over the outcome. His intentions may be sincere or self-serving — the surrounding cards will clarify. The Officer card nearby suggests a position of authority; the Letter card suggests communication or news connected to this person. In a yes/no reading, the Lover (Man) is a strong affirmative when the question concerns a relationship or connection with a man. It says: yes, he is thinking about you; yes, the feeling is real; yes, this person matters to the outcome. Shadow reading: At its difficult edge, the Lover (Man) card can represent volatility, ego-driven passion, or a man whose intensity crosses into possessiveness. The Gipsy Tarot does not romanticise this — it simply shows what is present. If you feel the shadow resonance, the card is asking you to see clearly, not to retreat. In the Gipsy Tarot tradition, this card sits at the very beginning of the deck because love — and the people who carry it — is where most of life's real questions begin.
