Reading the cards…
The Jealousy card is one of the most uncomfortable cards in the Gipsy Tarot — and also one of the most honest. Where other decks soften the presence of envy, distrust, or insecurity, the Gipsy Tarot names it plainly. This card does not mean that jealousy is justified. It means that jealousy is present. And in the Gipsy Tarot tradition, what is present must be examined rather than ignored. The card has two primary faces. The first is external: the presence of a third person in a relationship — someone whose existence (real or imagined) is creating tension, suspicion, or competition. This does not necessarily mean infidelity. It may simply mean that a dynamic has entered the relationship from outside, and that dynamic has not been addressed directly. The second face is internal: insecurity within the querent or their partner. This is the more common reading. Jealousy, in the Gipsy Tarot's view, is fundamentally a symptom of self-doubt. When you do not trust yourself, you cannot fully trust the people around you. The card here is asking you to look inward — not outward — for the root of what you are feeling. In a love reading, this card asks: what are you afraid of losing, and why? If the fear is rooted in real behaviour that needs addressing, the surrounding cards will show it. If the fear is rooted in your own self-worth, the card is inviting you to work on that rather than amplify the suspicion. In a professional reading, this card points to workplace rivalry, envy of status, or an atmosphere of competition that is affecting your ability to work and collaborate clearly. Someone may be undermining you — or you may be allowing your own comparison to others to distort your judgement. In a yes/no spread, Jealousy introduces ambiguity — it does not block the outcome but suggests that the emotional climate around the question needs to be clearer before a clean answer can emerge. Shadow reading: At its most difficult, this card can indicate controlling behaviour, surveillance, and the erosion of trust that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. The Gipsy Tarot names this clearly: the challenge of Jealousy is to build self-worth rather than build walls.
✦ Light: Clarifies what truly matters to you.
✦ Shadow: Control, suspicion, self-doubt.
⚡ Build self-worth instead of surveillance.
